RenoFig exists to give US homeowners clear, neutral, data-driven estimates for renovation costs before they talk to a contractor. We believe budget transparency helps homeowners make better decisions, avoid overpaying, and plan projects they can actually afford. Every calculator and guide on this site is built to answer one question: what will this renovation actually cost, and is it worth it?
What We Do (and Do Not Do)
We do:
- Provide free renovation cost calculators covering whole-home, room-specific, and planning scenarios.
- Publish educational guides on renovation budgets, ROI, and common pitfalls.
- Base all estimates on authoritative industry data (NARI, US Census Bureau, RSMeans, Remodeling Magazine Cost vs. Value Report).
We do not:
- Recommend or refer specific contractors, renovation companies, or material brands.
- Facilitate transactions or lead-generation for contractors.
- Publish marketing content, sponsored reviews, or product endorsements.
- Provide construction quotes or replace local contractor bids.
Author Credentials
RenoFig content is researched and written by the RenoFig Research Team, with editorial oversight by our Home Renovation & Budget Research Analyst. Our research process draws on annual industry cost reports, government construction data, and established construction-cost methodology (per-square-foot pricing, labor-to-material splits, contingency modeling). Our team is independent and is not compensated by any contractor, brand, or trade association.
Editorial Policy
Content Creation
Every article and calculator starts from primary cost data — RSMeans, NARI, and Remodeling Magazine reports — and is built using standard construction-cost estimation methodology. We do not accept paid placements or sponsored content. No advertiser influences our cost estimates or recommendations.
Data Updates
Construction costs change annually. We review and update our cost ranges against the latest industry reports each year, and we note the data vintage and update date on every page. Where costs shift significantly mid-year (as with lumber in 2021), we update affected content promptly.
Fact-Checking
All cost figures, ROI percentages, and cost ranges are cross-checked against at least two independent sources before publication. Methodology (how an estimate is built) is documented in our guides so readers can sanity-check any number.
Corrections
If you find an error in our data or content, please contact us. We investigate all reported issues and publish corrections promptly, with a note on the corrected page.
